Theater: 'Passing: The Play'

- Why Go: Inspired by the true story of Minerva Roulhac — a woman born in 1885 and raised by the family of a former slave in Florida — Passing confronts issues of race, identity, ethnicity and interracial relationships and is playing all weekend at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts. The play stars Mayowa Lisa Reynolds, a dancer, educator and associate minister at Detroit's Fellowship Chapel.Â
Politics: Rick Santorum Speech

- Why Go: Do you miss the back-and-forth of politics even though the election is over? Former Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum will be in Troy Friday evening for the Waterford-based Oakdale Academy's Liberty Campaign Dinner, an event that will raise money for the private school.
Lecture: 'Hope for Humanity'
- When: 11:15 a.m. Friday
- Where: The Community House
- Cost: Free
- Why Go: The Senior Mens Club of Birmingham presents Najah Bazzy, an internationally-known speaker on Islam, interfaith dialogue and human rights. Now a Canton resident, Bazzy will speak on her experiences working with the United States Army, the Susan B. Komen Foundation as well as her own Zamam International, a nonprofit that helps fund refugee resettlement all over the world.
