Bloomfield Hills' Craig Pearson is a Marshall Scholarship Winner

The St. Hugo of the Hills and U of D Jesuit product becomes just the 16th Marshall Scholar from Michigan State University.

Last month, we told you about how Bloomfield Hills native Craig Pearson was in the running for multiple prestigious international scholarships for his work in science at Michigan State University.

The former St. Hugo of the Hills School  and University of Detroit Jesuit High School student is officially a Marshall Scholarship winner for 2013. The award, funded by the Marshall Commission, helps support roughly 40 of the best American  undergraduate students study at any university in the United Kingdom. Marshall Scholarships pay tuition and fees, personal travel, book allowances, and a living stipend for up to three years.

Pearson is the 16th student in MSU's history to receive the award.

"It’s an enormous honor as well as a validation of all the hard work I’ve put in during my time at Michigan State, and I couldn’t be more excited to begin my studies in the UK,” said Pearson, 22. "I’m humbled and grateful for all the opportunities I’ve had at MSU and all the people who have helped me along the way – and I can’t wait to see what comes next.”

Pearson said he intends to pursue a doctorate in clinical neuroscience, and will research new treatments for glaucoma and other conditions affecting the eye.
