Clerk Lisa Brown Hosts Voter Registration Drive Near Bloomfield

"Voting is a fundamental right of American citizenship and I encourage young people to begin voting as soon as they're eligible," Oakland County Clerk Lisa Brown says.

The next election may still be months away, but voting registration and preparation is a year-round activity.

Oakland County Clerk and Register of Deeds Lisa Brown will host a voter-registration drive at West Bloomfield High School from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. All county residents are welcome to participate.

"Voting is a fundamental right of American citizenship and I encourage young people to begin voting as soon as they're eligible," the West Bloomfield democrat said. "By bringing registration services to the schools, we're helping to make students' voices heard."

According to Brown, if new voters don't register to vote in person, then the first time they vote must be in person — meaning, no absentee voting if a student is away at college.

"I want to do all I can to make it easier for people to vote," Brown added.

So, who can register to vote? Young people can register to vote if they are 17-and-a-half years old. They should bring a state-issued identification with them to complete their voter registration.
