Fuel Report: Gas Prices Drop in Bloomfield Area, But it Shouldn't Last

Metro Detroit motorists are getting a break this week on gas prices, which have fallen at least 10 cents since last week.
According to the AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Metro Detroit was $3.34 this morning, down from $3.45 a week ago and up from $3.11 one year ago.

Here are some of Monday's prices for a gallon of regular gas at a few nearby stations, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report:
- $3.19 Mobil, 1501 S. Opdyke Rd. and South Boulevard.
- $3.25 , 2343 S. Telegraph Rd. near Square Lake Road.
- $3.39 BP, 4009 Telegraph Rd. at West Long Lake Road.
- $3.46 , 42994 Woodward Ave. at Square Lake Road
- $3.47 , 43003 Woodward Ave. at Square Lake Road.
Price forecasting agency and data provider GasBuddy.com predicts that 2012 gas prices will peak in May, with a national median price of $3.95 per gallon. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is expected to hit a new high of $4.15 to $4.50 on Memorial Day in Metro Detroit, according to gasbuddy.com.

βWhile the 2012 outlook isnβt what Iβd call rosy, we can look to Europe at their $6-$9/gallon gasoline and be happy that weβre still not paying as much as some countries,β wrote Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst for gasbuddy.com.
