Lifetime Fitness Planned for Telegraph Road in Bloomfield Township

The request to demolish existing buildings and develop a new fitness center is slated for discussion at the Township's Board of Review on Wednesday.

Bloomfield Township may be home to the newest Lifetime Fitness in Metro Detroit.

Following input from Bloomfield Patch readers, we asked township officials about rumors that the string of offices near the southwest corner of Telegraph and Long Lake Roads will be cleared for a new, multi-level fitness club. Township Planning Director Patti Voelker confirmed late last week that a new plan for the property was recently submitted by developers and is scheduled for review at the Township's Design Review Board meeting Wednesday.

Last month, we highlighted the demolition and construction activity occurring near the Max Broock Realtors offices at one end of the property.

That is Phase One of the property owner's plan to expand the realtor's office space, and the foundations of a new building are visibly taking shape just north of the township's municipal complex. However, Phase Two of the project — to demolish the existing buildings from 4066 to 4120 Telegraph, and 4145 to 4152 Dublin for a multi-level medical office building — changed in recent weeks.

"The developer has recently submitted a new site plan application to develop an Executive member Lifetime Fitness building on the property south of the current construction site to replace the former medical office building proposal," Voelker said.

Lifetime Fitness is a full-service fitness club that offers members opportunities to participate in a variety of sports and activities. It also offers children's programs and other services aimed at improving personal health. The other closest facilities are in Troy, Commerce Township, and Rochester Hills

If approved by members of the Design Review Board, the proposal could be heard by the Township Planning Commission on Dec. 17. The time and agenda for Wednesday's meeting was not posted on the Township's website Monday morning.
