Ski Season Is Here: Where To Ski In Michigan

Now that the first real snow of the season has hit metro Detroit, thoughts have naturally turned to skiing. Michigan has many ski resorts to choose from, and this weekend, many are open for the first time this season. To help you plan the perfect ski getaway, here’s a list of a few great Michigan ski resorts and all the information you need to decide which one to hit up this weekend.
Ski Brule
Location: 397 Brule Mountain Road, Iron River, MI 49935
Prices: Adult (age 18+) – $49
Juniors (age 10-17) – $43
Kids (age 0-9) – FREE
$39 Advanced Lift Tickets are on sale now through 12/24. Valid anytime in 2017-18.
Hours: Lift Operation: 9-4 Daily

Shanty Creek Resort
Location: 5780 Shanty Creek Road, Bellaire
Prices: Adult (age 18-61) Prices range from just $5 for magic carpet to $75 for peek weekend/all day tickets. Weekday pricing is $20 less for all-day and 9-5 lift tickets, so you can ski on a Tuesday - as long as it’s not a holiday, where weekend pricing applies - for $50.
Teens and seniors get s $10 break, and kids 9-12 pay $36 (weekday, 9-5) - $55 (weekends and holidays, 9-5). Shanty creek offers many different time slots and deals, so check the website for the one that best suits your needs.
Deal: For opening day, Dec 15, Schuss Mountain says “pack as many friends, family members, neighbors and anyone else you can find into your car and head to Schuss Mountain. Everyone in your vehicle skis or rides for just $50 per carload.”
Hours: Opening Friday, Dec 15 for the season.
9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Sun-Tues; 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Schuss Mountain) Summit Mountain is open Sundays 9 a.m. - 4:30, Fridays 5 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., and Saturdays 9 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Trails open Friday, and Schuss Mountain’s website says they’re making snow round-the-clock and plan to open as many trails as possible this weekend.

Mt. Brighton
Location: 4141 Bauer Rd., Brighton.
Prices: Adults M-F $50, Weekend/holiday: $57; Children/Seniors: M-F: $45, Weekend/holiday: $52.
Night skiing (3 p.m. - 10 p.m.) M-F: Adults: $40, Children/Seniors: $35; Weekend/Holiday: Adults:$47, Children/Seniors: $42
