Brighton Volunteer Delivers Help and Support to Tornado Victims

Last June, one Brighton woman set out to bring help and support to the victims of the in Oklahoma after a tornado ripped through their town on May 20. 

Although thousands of miles away, Dawn Thie, founder of Neighbors that Care, organized a local donation effort, getting crucial supplies to those in need and just a few weeks ago delivered a 53' semi truck filled with local donations to Powerhouse Church in Moore, OK.

"We partnered with MSA Delivery Service in Canton, who conducted another donation drive and they also transported the items," Thie said.

Originally Thie began her organization after Hurricane Sandy with the hope of helping her home state of New Jersey after finding out that many of the large relief organizations are not designed to collect donated items and transport them to a disaster sight. 

"My goal at Neighbors That Care is to collect donations year round and build up a stock pile so that we can continue to support people who have been affected by a natural disaster," she said. "This has been a great success and motivates me to do more."
