Brighton Volunteer Delivers Help and Support to Tornado Victims

Dawn Thie, founder of Neighbors that Care, helped organize Brighton donations to be delivered to victims of the Oklahoma tornado.

Last June, oneΒ Brighton woman set out to bring help and support to theΒ victims of the in Oklahoma after aΒ tornadoΒ ripped through their town on May 20.Β

AlthoughΒ thousands of miles away,Β Dawn Thie, founder ofΒ Neighbors that Care,Β organized a local donation effort, getting crucial supplies to those in need and just a few weeks ago delivered a 53' semi truck filled with local donations to Powerhouse Church in Moore, OK.

"We partnered with MSA Delivery Service in Canton, who conducted another donation drive and they also transported the items," Thie said.

Originally ThieΒ began her organization after Hurricane Sandy with the hope of helpingΒ her home state ofΒ New Jersey after finding outΒ that many of theΒ large reliefΒ organizations are not designed to collect donated items and transport them to a disaster sight.Β

"My goal at Neighbors That Care is to collect donations year round and build up a stock pile so that we can continue to support people who have been affected by a natural disaster," she said.Β "This has been a great success and motivates me to do more."

People interested in donating the items can contact Neighbors the Care through their website or contact Thie for drop off locations atΒ dthie@neighborsthatcare.comΒ or 810.231.2290.
