Brighton High seniors celebrate with Senior Walk

Graduates celebrate annual walk in their cap and gowns for their last day of school.

As the school year comes to a close the seniors of Brighton High School, took one last walk through the halls. On May 30th, parents teachers and students lined the hallways of BHS to send off the current seniors. After finishing their final exams, they put on their cap and gown for the now annual Senior Walk. The graduating class of 2019 made their way through the crowd with feelings of sadness and excitement for the future. After the nostalgic walk, they went outside where a picnic was set up for them by administration and food service.

“I'm sad that school is ending but I'm also happy. It just feels like the right time and I’m ready to move forward. It was a good last time to see people and the school,” senior Libby Daberko said.

Students of other grades said goodbye to their senior friends. Parents congratulated their children with hugs and supportive words. Music played over the school speakers. Teachers were proud that they had helped the seniors through their four years of high school.

“The walk was very nostalgic for me. I saw the faces of people from my own grade that I hadn’t seen in years. It was also heartwarming to be a part of,” senior Ameera Semia said.

The walk was lead by principal Henry Vecchioni as it is his last year at the school as well, retiring as principal after 28 years with district. Students of every grade cheered him on while he marched along with the seniors.

After the walk, the seniors went to the football field for pictures with family and friends. This year the picnic was threatened by rain, but the weather held up and they were able to stay outside. 500 hot dogs were eaten by students and teachers. All of the desserts were donated by the teachers. Students and teachers laughed and talked of their memories and futures. BHS principal Gavin Johnson has hosted this picnic for several years to honor the graduating class.

“I organized the picnic with Mr. Johnson. Every year it’s very sad seeing the seniors go, but you have to go on. They are such great kids, but next year’s group will come in and be just as strong,” secretary Cindy Stafford said.
