Driver Killed In Crash After Fleeing Officers In Livingston County: Police

Police said the reckless driver struck two cars while fleeing officers in Livingston County.

BRIGHTON, MI — A driver was killed in a crash during a police chase in Livingston County Tuesday night, according to police.

Officers spotted a black Dodge Charger driving recklessly on W. Grand River in Brighton at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to police.

Officers tried to stop the Charger, but the driver sped away on Grand River to Beaver Street, according to police.

The Charger eventually ended up in the northbound lanes of Old US-23 where the driver tried to pass a vehicle that was moving in the southbound lanes, according to police.

When trying to merge back into the correct traffic lane, the driver sideswiped a southbound vehicle, causing the Charger to spin, according to police.

While spinning, the driver struck another vehicle, causing the Charger to roll over, according to police.

The driver of the Charger was killed in the crash, according to police.

No one else was inside the Charger, according to police.

The driver of the sideswiped vehicle was not injured, but the third vehicle's driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to police.

All of the drivers involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, according to police.

Police said speed played a role in the crash, but were still investigating whether alcohol or drugs were factors.

"This is a tragic incident, and as law enforcement officers, we never want to see a life lost," said Brighton police.
