Many locals are coming in with fever, cough, body aches, and strep throat. 3. House speaker vows lawsuit after Nessel declares move to cancel work project funds unconstitutional (legalnews.com) — State Rep. Ann Bollin of Brighton is at the center of a major Lansing fight over whether House Republicans can block $645 million in previously approved state work project funds. Attorney General Dana Nessel says the GOP maneuver is unconstitutional, while Republican leaders, including Bollin, insist they acted within long-standing law. The outcome could affect funding for programs statewide, from housing to early childhood support.
   

4. Michigan high school basketball final scores from Friday, Jan. 9 (michigansthumb.com) — Brighton hoops fans can see how their teams fared, with the Bulldogs topping Howell 55–42 and Brighton Charyl Stockwell splitting results against Sterling Heights Parkway Christian. The roundup lists dozens of boys and girls basketball finals from across Michigan played Friday, Jan. 9.
   

5. John Carlo Ketola (antrimreview.net) — Brighton residents are mourning alongside the family of John Carlo Ketola, whose son Todd and grandson Nolan live in the city. The longtime Michigander and devoted family man passed away in Bellaire at age 77, remembered for his warmth, hospitality, and love of simple gatherings, from lake barbecues to cribbage games and Detroit sports.
