Planted Provisioning Center today announced the public grand opening of Whitmore Lake’s first retail establishment for medical and adult-use (recreational) marijuana and cannabis education, slated for October 1-3 weekend. Planted’s Chief Operating Officer Matt Ritz, a member of the center’s ownership group, made the announcement.

After passing a rigorous community approval process, the business was selected out of more than 25 applicants for Whitmore Lake’s remaining available license. The group renovated the property at 9545 Main Street in Whitmore Lake’s Central Business District. Half the property will house the new provisioning center, which features 2,800 square feet of retail space, including a bud bar, six POS systems and a waiting room with 10+ person seating — while the other side of the property is reserved for additional retail space. The total anticipated investment is $1.8 million.

Whitmore Lake resident Victoria Nichols will serve as Planted’s general manager and supervise a team of budtenders and cannabis coaches. She also is a medical marijuana patient and experienced caregiver.

Experienced ownership group. Local connection.

Planted’s ownership group has rich experience in owning and managing business operations and being knowledgeable about the cannabis industry, strong selling points for the Whitmore Lake Board of Trustees.

Ritz and co-owners Michael Lewis, Derek Merlini and Kevin Serwatowski are all Michigan natives. Their collective experience includes working in the automotive industry at the corporate and dealership levels, custom home building, and the cannabis industry with growing operations, organic, sustainable products and state-of-the-art extraction processes and equipment.

Customer education will be another Planted Provisioning Center differentiator, Ritz notes.

“As legal climates change around the country and around the world, more and more people are turning to this once-alternative form of medicine to do what modern medicine simply cannot. Planted is here to help our customers through the process, from how to register, to what to expect when you step through our doors. We’ll explain your choices and guide you in creating an experience that best fits each individual’s needs.”
