3 Arrested In Shooting Death Of Oakland County Teen: Police

The shooting happened at a home near 14 Mile Road and Renshaw Avenue in Clawson, according to police.

CLAWSON, MI — Three people have been arrested in connection with an Oakland County shooting that left an 18-year-old man dead last week, according to prosecutors.

The shooting happened at 10:31 p.m. on May 22 at a home near 14 Mile Road and Renshaw Avenue in Clawson, according to police.

Police said officers found the 18-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound at the home. He was taken to Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital in Royal Oak where he died, according to police.

Joshua Peel, a 20, of Royal Oak, and a 17-year-old juvenile were both charged with accessory after the fact/manslaughter.

Prosecutors said the group of young adults was preparing to leave a Clawson apartment to attend a party. As they were leaving, prosecutors said Clark-Spencer, who was carrying a gun, checked to see if it was loaded. That's when the gun fired and struck the 18-year-old, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, prosecutors said the 17-year-old juvenile hid the gun and other evidence after he fled the apartment along with Clark-Spencer and Peel.

Prosecutors believe the gun was stolen from a safe that belonged to the 17-year-old's father.

"The shooter should never have had that gun, and he and those who assisted him after the shooting will be held accountable for this tragedy," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "Gun violence is preventable. This case is a terrible reminder of how quickly a situation can turn deadly when the wrong person gets a gun."

Media reports identified the eighteen-year-old victim as Troy student Derek Scholl. Scholl's grandfather told WXYZ the fatal shooting has crushed the family.

"Derek was such a positive influence on everybody, family included, and to not have him around, there’s a hole in the house somehow that will never be filled," Michael Scholl told the news station. "For somebody that just picks up a gun, looks at it and tries to figure it out, I don’t recommend that at all."

A GoFundMe has been created by the family to help with funeral arrangements. As of Thursday afternoon, the page had raised $23,500.
