Clawson Police Talk Man with Gun out of House After 3-Hour Standoff

Clawson Police are investigating a three-hour standoff with a man with a gun who barricaded himself inside his East Tacoma home early Thursday morning.
The 55-year-old man's ex-wife reported a domestic assault incident to police around 1 a.m., and indicated the man had a pistol,Β Clawson Police Chief Harry Anderson said.Β The ex-wife told police that the man pushed her, but she was not injured.Β
When police arrived on the 100 block of East Tacoma, the ex-wife was outside and they spotted the man walking inside the house with a gun pointed to his head. The man refused to leave the house, police say.Β

With assistance from Troy Police and the Oakland County Sherriff's Department, officers negotiated with the man for three hours trying to get him to leave the home. Around 4 a.m., the man said he had secured the gun and walked outside the house unharmed, police say.
"It was a major thing," Anderson said. "But it turned out good."

Police took the man into custody and sent him to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak for psychological evaluation.
Anderson said it's been several years since police had to respond to a barricaded gunman incident in Clawson.
Bike stolen from high school
A Clawson man told police someone stole his bike from outside sometime between 3-8 p.m. Aug. 31. The victim said he was at an away soccer game during the time of the theft. The bike, which was left unsecured, is a BMX-style, grey and organe in color with 20-inch whels.
