Mind Tapped Artist to Drive Blindfolded in Clawson

George Tait will drive blindfolded through a human obstacle course in the parking lot of Pizza Hut.

A blindfolded man will take the wheel of a Ford Focus on Saturday for a stunt to promote the 40th anniversary of  in Clawson, Metro Detroit's oldest magic supply store.

George Tait, of the , said he plans to drive blindfolded through a human obstacle course in the parking lot of  at 14 Mile and Main Street. A group of magicians dressed in rabbit suits will stand in his path as Tait uses his sense of hearing, smell, touch and taste to make it through the course.

"We would like to get as ridiculous and crazy as possible for the 40th anniversary," said Tait, 28, of Royal Oak. "But it's still pretty dangerous because if I take a wrong turn I could hit somebody with the car."

City officials granted Wunderground permission to hold the event and will cordon off the parking lot while the stunt is going on.

Tait said he has been doing mind tapped stunts for the past 12 years and has performed magic all over the world, including Finland, England and Las Vegas. Tait defines mind tapped magic as "a combination of psychology, magic and bold lies to create the illusion of mind reading or mind control."

Tait said he will warm up for the stunt by walking a straight line through the parking lot, first with sight and then blindfolded. He will then drive through the human obstacle course with sight and try to memorize the path. Fellow magicians will embed coins in his eyes and then top with a blindfold to ensure he doesn't see anything.

"There is nothing psychic or paranormal," Tait said. "Anyone can do this with years of practice."

The Wunderground Magic Shop was founded on April 1, 1971, with its first location in Ferndale. Since then, it has been in Royal Oak and now in Clawson for the past six years.

The blindfold stunt will begin at noon Saturday and all are welcome to watch.
