Schools Purchase 900 Computers, Installation Begins

Technology department plans to have new desktops in all Clawson schools by the first day of school.

Clawson Schools students will see new desktop computers and printers when they return to school on Sept. 6.

The school district has received the 900 Dell computers it is installing  in the classrooms and computers labs of each school. Technology Director Marcus Isabell said his staff has worked all summer to remove old equipment and ready the new computers with updated software.

"More than anything, the performance is increased," Isabell said.

Isabell said he plans to put 35 new computers in each lab in the district, an average of two computers per classroom and supply the faculty with new computers. He expects to have new HP laser printers for the classrooms when schools starts.

Purchase of new equipment was made possible by a in May. The millage will generate the $4 million the district said it needs to replace outdated equipment. So far, the schools have spent $1 million on new computers and printers and plan to purchase smart boards for classrooms during the school year.

Isabell said he has ordered new furniture to accommodate the new equipment. It will allow him to fit all 35 computers in the labs. Isabell has a team of paid student co-ops who are helping him with the project this summer. They are preparing rooms for the new equipment

"We’re anxious to get all of this in place," Isabell said. "We’re working like crazy."
