10-vehicle Accident Caused By Detroit Man: Macomb County Sheriff
A northern Macomb County accident that left three men in critical condition was caused by a Detroit man, Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A Detroit man who took his life Saturday after a standoff with police was the driver of a commercial dump truck-trailer that caused a 10-car accident in northern Macomb County last month. Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said David White caused the accident that left three men in critical condition.
The accident occurred on May 25 when Davis’ truck crashed into a vehicle stopped at the traffic signal on northbound M-53 at 32-mile Road in Washington Township, Wickersham said. It caused a chain reaction that damaged five other vehicles in the same lane and three vehicles in a second lane.
"Detectives talked to him and secured a search warrant and got his blood," Wickersham told the Detroit Free Press.

The accident closed the road for more than eight hours. In a statement at the time of the accident, Wickersham said it was believed White had fallen asleep for a few seconds just prior to the crash. He later told the Free Press, after White’s death, that his office is still investigating whether the Detroit man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

White was wanted in St. Clair County on multiple charges, the Free Press reported. He allegedly forced an 86-year-old Brockway Township woman to drive him to Detroit at gunpoint in the early morning hours of Saturday. Police responded to a home in southwest Detroit at about 5 a.m. after being tipped off that White was there. After about an hour standoff, police believe White shot himself.
