Accident Leaves 3 Critical

An early morning Macomb County accident involved multiple cars and a tractor-trailer.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A 10-car accident in northern Macomb County sent three people to local hospitals with critical injuries early Thursday morning. A preliminary Macomb County Sheriff's Office investigation showed that a 54-year-old Detroit was driving a commercial tractor-trailer when it collided into vehicles that were stopped or preparing to stop for a red light on northbound M-53.

The accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. just south of 32 Mile Road in Washington Township, the sheriff's office said. Sheriff's Capt. David Kennedy said investigators are not certain why the semi driver did not stop, but it does not appear that drugs, alcohol or cell phone use are involved in the crash at this time, according to a Detroit Free report.

A total of six people were hurt. The three with critical injuries were from three separate vehicles, the sheriff’s office said. Kennedy said the truck driver, who was not named, was operating a semi for Heavy Metal Trucking in Warren and was not hurt in the crash.
