Toddler, 3, Dies In Accidental Shooting: Clinton Township Police

A 3-year-old Clinton Township boy has died from an accidental shooting, according to police.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A 3-year-old boy has died after accidentally shooting himself early Tuesday afternoon. The Macomb Daily reported that the toddler was rushed to McLaren Macomb Hospital by his mother after the shooting. The incident happened at the Newport Apartments in Clinton Township located between Gratiot Avenue and I-94.

Clinton Township Police are still gathering information about the accidental shooting. According to Capt. Richard Maierle, the child found the loaded gun on the ground in front of an apartment building.
The child was playing with a group of children with his mother nearby. The mother heard a shot and the child went down. The child’s mother quickly scooped him up and rushed him to McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens. It is unknown if the child died at the hospital or en route to the facility.
