Big Reds Premiere 'Wicked' Marching Band Show

The Chippewa Valley High School marching band provided fans a sneak peek of this year's show on Aug. 21.

With 152 students on the field, including color guard, this year's Big Red Marching Band is one of the school's largest in recent years.

Of those 152 students, almost half are freshmen.

"I'm real excited with the numbers," said Chippewa Valley High School band director Tim Hoey. "It's going to be a really good year and it bodes well for the future."

While the school no longer competes in the Michigan Competing Band Association, it does put its talent to the test in Scholastic Marching Band competition. Chippewa Valley will play host one of these competitions at the end of September.

The marching band also provides entertainment for Chippewa Valley's home football games and has marched in America's Thanksgiving Day Parade for the past decade.
