Clinton Twp. Voters May Not See Casino Question in November After All

The state board of canvassers did not have the necessary votes to certify the petition that would put the proposal on the Nov. 6 ballot.

Clinton Township voters may not have the opportunity to vote on a casino in their neighborhood after all.

Despite a 2-1 vote Monday, the state board of canvassars failed to certify the petition that would put a proposal for eight new casinos on the Nov. 6 ballot.

The measure was originally expected to pass the board as the only Friday to reverse an earlier appeals court decision that argued the proposal was unconstitutional.

Of the eight proposed casinos, one was destined for Clinton Township, specifically the area between Gratiot and I-94 just south of Hall Road.

The proposal would have also asked to raise the tax rate on all casinos to 23 percent.
