Clinton Twp. Water and Sewer Rates Set to Increase in October

Home and business owners in Clinton Township will see a 7.4 percent overall increase in water and sewerage service in October.

Clinton Township officials say over staffing and poor maintenance on the part of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department are to blame for the township's recent increase in water and sewer rates.

Home and business owners in Clinton Township will see a 7.5 percent overall increase in water and sewerage service in October, with the monthly minimum bill jumping from $36.42 to $39.15 under the township's five-unit minimum. Actual bills will vary based on water consumption.

Clinton Township’s Board of Trustees approved the rate hike on Aug. 13. The measure passed by a 5-1 vote with Trustee Jenifer “Joie” West voting against it and Clerk George Fitzgerald absent from the meeting.
