Drug Deal Goes Bust When Buyer Robbed at Gunpoint; $19K Stolen in Verizon Robbery

Update: The Macomb Daily has identified the 20-year-old as Detroit resident Frank Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm and attempted murder in 41B District Court, according to the Daily. He is being held in the Macomb County Jail on a $750,000 bond.
A drug deal ended in arrests for both the buyer and seller Aug. 18, after the meeting became armed robbery, Clinton Township Police say.
Police were dispatched to the 24000 block of S. Grange St. at approximately 10:38 p.m. Aug. 18 for the report of an armed robbery.

The victim told police he was robbed at gunpoint, with the suspect taking his wallet, cell phone and $200 cash. The victim, a 48-year-old man, later admitted to police he had been attempting to buy marijuana.
The meeting had been pre-arranged, but when the 48-year-old arrived, a 20-year-old male put a gun to his head and ordered him to hand over the money, according to the police report. The 20-year-old pulled the trigger, and the gun clicked, but no shot was fired, police say.

Police later found the 20-year-old rifling through vehicles in the area. He was arrested for robbery and driving with a suspended license. The 48-year-old, who attempted to flee the scene before police arrived, was arrested for driving with a revoked driver’s license.

$19,000 in cell phones stolen in armed robbery at Verizon Wireless
On Aug. 17, at approximately 7 p.m., Clinton Township Police received a report of an armed robbery at the Verizon Wireless store at 36700 Garfield Rd.
An employee of the store told police a black male in his mid 20s entered the store and pulled a gun, ordering those in the store to the back. The man then ordered the employee to open the store safe, according to the police report.
The suspect, who is described as being clean-shaven with short hair and a tattoo on his left arm, stole more than $19,000 worth of cell phones and $411 from the cash register, according to the police report.
Police say the suspect may be linked to previous retail frauds in Clinton Township and Livonia.
There have been no arrests in this case.
