What was a dull ache at the pump is quickly becoming an all too familiar pain as gas prices once again creep toward the $4 mark in Clinton Township and across the country.
Gas prices in every state have increased over the last week and the national average had risen for 31 days straight as of Sunday, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.
And though price jumps will be less severe in the weeks ahead, increases are expected to continue through April, Martha M. Meade, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic, told the Augusta Free Press.

“Prices at the pump continue to rise, although the double-digit weekly increases have eased a bit,” Meade was quoted as saying. “Since mid-January, the price of fuel has been propelled higher by more expensive crude oil, but more notably by regional refinery issues and the approaching switchover to summer-blend gasoline. As temporary production concerns are addressed, AAA expects price increases to slow."
The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.71 as of Sunday, and $3.91 in Michigan. In Clinton Township, the lowest price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.72, while the highest was $4.09 late Sunday night, according to GasBuddy.com.
