Gibraltar Trade Center To Close

After nearly three decades in business, the Gibraltar Trade Center will close.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — One of Macomb County’s most popular public markets is closing. The Gibraltar Trade Center is closing in August after being sold. The popular weekend market, which has also featured numerous shows over its 27-year run in Mt. Clemens, has been hurt by online retail competition in recent years.

“We are not in any financial trouble -- we decided to sell the property,” owner Bob Koester said. “Online sales aren’t going away, and they simply are crunching our vendors and their ability to sell products. And as our older vendors move on, no one is replacing them. The revenue has dwindled.”

Koester said Gibraltar Rug & Furniture Outlet in Warren at Universal Mall will continue to operate “for years to come.” He said three more rug outlets are planned in the Detroit area.
