Knife-wielding Teen Charges at Clinton Township Police

A 16-year-old boy could face multiple assault charges after police say he threatened residents in his group home with a kitchen knife and attacked a Clinton Township officer who was attempting to restrain him.Â
Police responded to a home on East Price at around 4:25 p.m. Feb. 22 for the report of an individual threatening others with a knife.
When officers arrived at the home, the teen was in the front yard holding a large kitchen knife, which he threw at the windshield of the patrol car before running toward one of the officers, according to police.

In the ensuing struggle, the teen hit a Clinton Township officer in the face and continued to spit and kick at officers as he was cuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car, police say. Â
While attempting to restrain him, officers say he was screaming and foaming at the mouth. He was not arrested but taken to McLaren Macomb for an evaluation. A care worker at the teen’s group home told police the teen has a history of mental health issues, according to the report.

Police say they intend to pursue charges of assault and battery on a police officer with injury, and assault with a dangerous weapon against the teen.
