L’Anse Creuse Retiree Gives Back in a Big Way
The late Barbara Lehtonen left approximately $25 K to the district for homeless education. She taught at LCPS for 33 years.

From LCPS: L’Anse Creuse Public Schools is extremely grateful to the late Barbara
Lehtonen for her generous bequest to the district of approximately $25,000 for homeless education.
Barbara was a member of the L’Anse Creuse family for 33 years, from 1964 to 1997. During that
time she was a business teacher and business department head at L’Anse Creuse High School – North. She
earned her Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, and Ed.S (Educational Specialist) in education from
Northern Michigan and spent her entire career at L’Anse Creuse Public Schools.
“I find it interesting that she practiced what she taught by investing her own money to benefit the
homeless students in L’Anse Creuse,” stated Interim Superintendent Dr. John Armstrong.

“She was a good teacher and worked with each student to develop their talents,” stated Joyce Wells
former director of management information services for L’Anse Creuse.
Barbara passed away peacefully at her home in Clinton Township on Saturday, November 12,
