Lane Closure At M-59/M-53 Starting Saturday Night
MDOT said Schoenherr Road will be closed again for another 10 days in mid-July for paving of the two left lanes.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — One lane will close on M-53 under the M-59 bridge starting at Saturday at 9 p.m. The closure will allow Michigan Department of Transportation crews to painting the barrier walls of the M-59 bridge over M-53. The lane will reopen Sunday morning at 5 a.m.
The work is part of MDOT’s $60 million project to reconstruct 3.7 miles of M-59 (Hall Road) between M-53 to Garfield Road in 2017 and between Garfield Road and Romeo Plank Road in 2018. Drivers from Sterling Heights, Utica, and Clinton, Macomb, and Shelby townships are effected by the work.
Painting isn’t the only work that will be completed over the next few days. The eastbound lanes of the M-59 bridge over M-53 will have an epoxy seal applied from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. During this work, traffic will be reduced to two lanes from Van Dyke Road to Delco Boulevard.

Crews will then apply an epoxy seal on westbound M-59 over M-53, reducing it to two lanes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday from west of Schoenherr Road to Sterritt Street. The westbound M-59 ramp to southbound M-53 will be closed during this time as well.

Paving is almost complete on the two right lanes and shoulder of eastbound M-59 between M-53 and Garfield Road. Sometime next week, MDOT says traffic will be moved onto the new pavement and work will begin on the two left lanes. Access will continue to be maintained to all businesses along M-59.
Schoenherr Road is expected to reopen by Tuesday. Traffic will be allowed to cross over and turn onto M-59. MDOT said that Schoenherr Road will be closed again for another 10 days in mid-July for paving of the two left lanes.
The overall M-59 project is on schedule and work is being performed in multiple locations, MDOT said in a news release. Driveway closures to businesses continue to be coordinated to allow at least one access point.
