MACOMB COUNTY, MI β€” A popular mid-Michigan burger joint is opening a new location in metro Detroit next week, according to local reports.

Owner Achille "Ace" DiNello told What Now Detroit the new restaurant is personal, as he's from Clinton Township.

"For me this is like coming home," DiNello told the outlet. "In our opinion, we’re the last fast food chain that’s Michigan-branded and Michigan-founded, so we’re just excited to expand and give it that retro look."

Halo Burger once had more than a dozen restaurants in Michigan, including locations in Oakland County.

Halo Burger was founded in Flint in 1923, making it one of the oldest hamburger chains in the U.S. The restaurant was originally called Kewpee, which served its first hamburger out of a "boxcar" style wagon on Harrison St. in Downtown Flint, according to its website.
