Spring Facelift Planned for Mobil Gas Station at Canal and Garfield

From new pumps to an expanded convenience store, the gas station at 42020 Garfield Rd. is slated to undergo a top-to-bottom renovation that will temporarily close the location.

With cracked pavement, aging pumps and a convenience store far too small for the station’s growing needs, the Mobil Gas at the northeast corner of Garfield and Canal is long overdue for a facelift.

Recognizing this need, the station's owner, Safiedine Oil, Inc., has announced it will begin a full-scale renovation on th site this spring.

“We’re going to do an addition on the south side of the building, about 1,000 square feet, that will open the store up so you can drive all the way around it,” said Tony Kaddo, Safiedine operations manager. “We’re also going to repave the lot, reconstruct the canopy and install new pumps.”

The current convenience store will also be gutted and redesigned both inside and out.

“We’re a large company and we own several stores, but we pride ourselves on the condition of our stores,” Kaddo said. “This particular store has been an eyesore for awhile. It was in poor condition when we purchased it and we’ve been waiting for the right time to completely revamp it.”

While the station will be closed during renovations, Kaddo said if everything goes according to plan, work should be completed within three months.

“The weather is going to be a factor and it will depend on what we find when we tear up the lot. But for our customers and the township, it’s just a positive thing all the way through.”
