Borders in Dearborn to Close

After filing for bankruptcy Wednesday morning, Borders Books & Music will close its Dearborn store on Mercury Drive.

Borders Books & Music has announced that its at 5601 Mercury Dr. will be closing as part of the company's bankruptcy reorganization.

Closing dates have not been set, but are expected to happen no later than the end of April for all stores.

"All the stores will close by the end of April," said Borders Seniors Vice President Rosalind Thompson. "They will close as they run out of inventory."

Store closing sales are expected to begin as early as Saturday.

Four Borders stores in Michigan have been announced as part of the nationwide closure of over 200 locations. Others in the state include the Arborland Mall, Utica Park Place and Grosse Pointe stores.

Dearborn's store currently has 26 employees, including those working in their Seattle's Best Cafe. Employees are not giving comment at this time.

A full list of Borders closures can be found online, as well as information about how the bankruptcy filing will affect customers. Borders has assured that all gift cards and Borders rewards subscriptions will be honored, and that it will continue to sell products online and in its remaining stores nationwide.
