Dearborn Announces Homecoming Headliner

DEARBORN, MI — The main performance for Dearborn's summer signature event has been announced: Starship featuring Mickey Thomas will be the headline act at Dearborn’s Homecoming festival at Ford Field Park this year.

The band will take the Main Stage during the Homecoming festival on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8:30 p.m. to give the audience an energetic 90-minute concert.

Guests can expect to hear classics like “We Built This City,” “Sara,” “Tomorrow Doesn’t Matter Tonight,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “It’s Not Over (‘Til it’s Over),” “It’s Not Enough” and “Jane.”

The band, initially a continuation of Jefferson Starship, was formed in 1984 and underwent numerous lineup and musical changes, eventually landing on its current lineup of former Jefferson Starship vocalist Mickey Thomas, Stephanie Calvert, Phil Bennett, Darrell Verdusco, Jeff Adams, and John Roth.

Prior to joining Jefferson Starship, Thomas was known for providing vocals for the Elvin Bishop Band’s 1976 hit, “Fooled Around and Fell in Love.”

Thomas then joined Jefferson Starship in 1979, lending his voice to the songs “Jane” and “Find Your Way Back,” and recording four albums with them.

He remained the vocalist of the Jefferson Starship until members went their separate ways, with Thomas forming “Starship” in 1984. The band transformed into its current iteration “Starship featuring Mickey Thomas” in the early 90s.

The band has released a total of four albums, including their most recent album “Loveless Fascination” in 2013, and has remained active throughout the years. Music from Starship featuring Mickey Thomas has been included in various TV shows and films such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Rock of Ages, and Glee.

Homecoming’s Saturday night performance by Starship featuring Mickey Thomas is sure to showcase chart-topping hits and more, with songs spanning from their formation until today. Fans looking forward to seeing the iconic rock band are encouraged to arrive to the event early.
The 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 concert is free, as is admission to Homecoming. Following the show at 10 p.m. will be a professional fireworks display.

Celebrating its 40th year, Homecoming runs Aug. 2-4 at Ford Field Park, 500 Monroe St., Dearborn. Festival attendees can enjoy two nights of spectacular fireworks, delicious food, carnival rides, free family activities such as games and contests, and other top-tier entertainment.

The three-day festival is organized by the City of Dearborn and the nonprofit Dearborn Community Fund. The presenting sponsor once again is Beaumont.

The popular event includes over a dozen Dearborn-based nonprofit groups raising awareness or money for causes that support the community.
