Dearborn Libraries Now Digitize Old Photos, Records
This free new service will take place at the D-Lab and is free to cardholders.

DEARBORN, MI β The Dearborn Public Library is offering a handy new service to its cardholders now. Library goers can now back-up old photographs, VHS tapes and records for free at the digitization lab at the library. Digitization is the process of transforming data from one medium to another, such as a VHS tape to a computer file.
Digitizing is a good idea for a number of reasons, especially to preserve older materials such as VHS tapes or photographs, city officials said. If not stored in ideal conditions, photographs and celluloid film deteriorates, diminishing their clarity or potentially destroying them if left for too long.
Also, updating older media makes them more accessible, and no longer requires outmoded hardware to play or view them.
The Dearborn Public Library D-Lab is available by appointment only. For lab hours please visit dearbornlibrary.org. Appointments may be made by phone at 313-943-2330 or in person at the Henry Ford Centennial Library reference desk.
