Dearborn School Officials Will Again Hold Meeting At Stout MS

The district's meeting in October was also moved to the middle school after a raucous crowd disrupted the meeting with concerns over books.

DEARBORN, MI — Dearborn Public School officials will again hold their regular Board of Education meeting at Stout Middle School as they expect another large turnout. The Nov. 14 meeting will start at 7 p.m.

The school board's meeting in October was also moved to the middle school after a raucous crowd disrupted the meeting with concerns over books in the district's school library. School officials discussed the district's new policy to give parents the opportunity to block certain titles their child may access at that meeting.

Although officials do not expect to vote on anything related to school library books, they advised people planning to attend the meeting to not bring signs that can block people's view and for other safety reasons. No backpacks or other large bags will be allowed either, school officials said.

Guest must use the front door facing Oakwood Boulevard near the school’s digital sign. If the middle school's auditorium (which seats 600 people) fills up, then those attending will be asked to watch from the nearby school cafeteria where the meeting will be shown on monitors in the cafeteria and gym. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will also be shown live on the district’s YouTube Channel and will be available later on the district’s cable television channel and YouTube.

Those who want to speak to the board must submit a blue card form by 7:10 p.m. All Speakers will be limited to three minutes each, per longstanding board policy. Time cannot be yielded to another speaker and speakers should not mention the names of students or district employees, officials said.

Officials also reminded speakers that they are there to address the board. If a speaker needs translation assistance, they are encouraged to contact the Superintendent's Office before 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 so arrangements can be made.

District officials reiterated the Board of Education meeting is not a town hall or other open forum, and its purpose is to allow the Board to conduct the business of the district. Disruptions or rude behavior will not be tolerated, and that person could be asked to leave.
