Dearborn Virtual Peace Camp To Take Begin Tuesday
For the first time, the three-day Peace Camp is going virtual and kids from everywhere are welcome to participate.
DEARBORN, MI –A long-time camp offered for free by a church in Dearborn will be going virtual in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Hundreds of children ages 6-12 have attended a free Peace Camp each summer since 1998 when it was first offered by Littlefield Presbyterian Church in northeast Dearborn. This year, for the first time, the three-day Peace Camp is going virtual and kids from everywhere are welcome to participate.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, instead of gathering in the church basement, the campers will gather in their own homes for individual and interactive activities, led online by camp leaders from Littlefield.

Campers learn how to make peaceful choices to be peace builders in their community. The church said that, as in the past, campers will explore the themes of identifying what peace is, what characteristics make a peace builder, understanding conflict and the learning the appropriate tools to resolve it.
The campers participate in activities that encourage working together to build peace at home, at school, in their communities and around the world.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this year the games and hands on activities presented during camp will have to take place at home.
In years past, the church said, the campers, leaders and their families also were invited to start each evening with a Halal meal in the church's Fellowship Hall. Traditionally, the church’s Peace Camp also involved youth leaders, ages 13-20 who earned community service hours.
