Fender Bender Sculpture Celebrates Henry Ford's Legacy in Dearborn

During the month of October, the north lawn of the Henry Ford Centennial Library will be home to a new sculpture that was created by artists involved with the Fender Bender project, entitled "Legacy."

This sculpture was constructed by students and faculty from the Welding Department at Schoolcraft College in Livonia to honor Henry Ford's 150th birthday.

Many historical references are made with the sculpture to reveal some of the various legacies that Ford was responsible for bringing to the public.

The assembly line is displayed with a man working away while Ford’s spirit overlooks the production. The original Ford emblem is used in black and white, and a famous quote that Ford was noted for: “You can have any color as long as it is black” is painted across the hanging fenders.

Car parts are welded to the assembly line and headlights light up to bring life to the scene. To top it off, a three-tiered cake with the number 150 sit on the assembly line to mark Ford's 150th birthday.

The sculpture is available for public viewing and photos during the library's regular hours of operation.
