Michigan Gas Prices Up 30 Cents A Gallon In The Last Month

Prices are continuing to climb in the wake of OPEC's decision to cut oil production.

DEARBORN, MI — Gas prices are going bonkers. In the last month, the price of a gallon of regular gas in the state of Michigan has jumped a whopping thirty cents to a total of $2.38, according to AAA. It was just $2.08 during the good old days - last month.

Meanwhile, gas prices in Metro Detroit are even higher than the statewide average. A gallon of gas in Metro Detroit will run you $2.40 - that's up ten cents a gallon in one week.

Prices at the pump have surged since the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced in November plans to cut production of oil by 1.2 million barrels a day for six months. The next OPEC Ordinary Meeting is scheduled for May 25, 2017 in Vienna, Austria. That's a big day, because the group could decide to extend the production cut another six months - which in turn would likely mean another six months of rising gas prices.
