Need To Know: Small Business Saturday In Dearborn

DEARBORN, MI — Kick off your holiday shopping by supporting small, local businesses in Downtown Dearborn starting on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 24, through Dec. 2.

Community partners, including the East and West Dearborn Downtown Development Authorities and the Dearborn Area Chamber of Commerce, have assembled a wide selection of retailers and restaurants to offer great in-store deals and a chance to win amazing, local gifts.

American Express launched its Small Business Saturday program in 2010 to encourage people across the country to support small, local businesses.

Shoppers are encouraged to pick up a #ShopSmall #DowntownDearborn Passport at one of 44 participating locations featuring deals and specials and get it stamped as they make purchases at as many locations as possible through December 2. Every time someone makes a purchase, they will receive a stamp (does not need to be the special or discount item offered). For every stamp received, customers are then entered to win prizes provided by participating businesses.

“Locally-owned businesses reinvest more than 70% of their earnings back into their community,” said Executive Director, East Dearborn Downtown Development Authority/West Dearborn Downtown Development Authority Cristina Sheppard-Decius. “When you shop local you are helping to grow your downtown which supports the people who live and work in your community. With nearly 50 participating restaurants and shops, this year’s #ShopSmall initiative offers great opportunity to check off everyone on your holiday list with great finds from local merchants.”

Passports must be returned to one of the following locations by Sunday, December 9 to be entered to win prizes:

• Henry Ford Centennial Library – 16301 Michigan Ave. (Dearborn)
• STEP Thrift Store & Donation Center – 23830 Michigan Ave. (Dearborn Heights)
• Village Picture Frame & Art Gallery – 22191 Michigan Ave. (West Downtown Dearborn)
