Teen, 16, Killed In Crash On Ford Road In Dearborn Heights: Police

Police believe the teen was drag racing.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI — A teenager was killed in a Thursday night crash while drag racing in Dearborn Heights, according to police.

The crash happened at 11 p.m. on Ford Road near Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights, according to police.

Police said the 16-year-old driver was speeding in a car west on Ford Road just before Telegraph when he lost control and crashed into a building. Police said the teen was killed in the crash.

Police believe the teen was drag racing.

"It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the tragic passing of one of our youth, a beloved member of our community of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights who was involved in a fatal accident last night. Our hearts go out to their family, friends, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss," acting Dearborn Heights Police Chief Ahmed Haidar said.

Police encouraged parents to talk to their children about dangerous driving, such as speeding and using a phone behind the wheel.

"Consider setting clear expectations, such as limiting nighttime driving, and never using a cell phone while behind the wheel," Haidar said.

No other details were released about the crash, which police are still investigating.
