1 Dead, Multiple Hurt In I-75 Crash In Metro Detroit: Police

Investigators have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

MONROE COUNTY, MI — A truck driver is dead and several road workers were injured in a Tuesday crash on Interstate 75 in metro Detroit, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened 9:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the Interstate 275 split in Frenchtown Township, police said.

Police said a semi truck smashed into the back of two MDOT vehicles that road workers were using to patch the left lane of Interstate 75. The MDOT vehicles were attenuator vehicles, which are designed with a system to protect from impact should they get hit from behind, police said.

The crash caused aluminum cans from the semi truck's trailer to spill onto the roadway, police said.

The driver of the semi truck was killed in the crash, police said.

Several road workers suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

Investigators have not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. They were also still trying to determine if the truck driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Investigators did not release the truck driver's age or hometown.

Interstate 75 in that area was still closed as police were investigating the crash.
