Michigan State Police got involved in the case at the family's behest and began assisting Van Buren Township police.

On Thursday, police said two people had been arrested in connection with the killing of Egypt Covington, a 27-year-old singer who was found shot and killed in her Van Buren Township home in June 2017.

Police at the time said detectives from the Michigan State Police 2nd District Special Investigation Section made the arrests Thursday morning but did not release additional information.

Authorities said Timothy Eugene Moore, 34, of Toledo, Ohio, was arraigned Sunday on one count of first-degree homicide, felony murder, first-degree home invasion, weapons possession by a felon, and four counts of felony firearm in the 34th District Court. He was denied bond, police said.

"We realize that we have not discussed this investigation in public," officials said in a statement. "This investigation has a lot of moving parts and our ultimate goal is to make sure we get every fact possible to bring justice for Egypt."
