Legendary singer Aretha Franklin died Thursday at her Detroit home at the age of 76. Read Patch's obituary for the "Queen of Soul" here.
News broke earlier this week that Franklin was "gravely ill" and it was later reported that she was in hospice care at her home. Franklin's church in Detroit, the New Bethel Baptist Church, held a prayer tribute for her Wednesday morning.
According to The Detroit News, about 10-12 churchgoers show up for the 5 a.m. Wednesday service but the prayer tribute to Franklin drew over a 100 people.

The 76-year-old "Queen of Soul" canceled two concerts earlier this year after her doctor ordered her to stay off the road and rest. Evrod Cassimy of the Detroit radio station WDIV Local 4 who is a close friend of Franklin's was the first to report that the singer is gravely ill. Cassimy said that when he spoke to Franklin on Monday and she was surrounded by close friends and family. According to Cassimy, Stevie Wonder and the Rev. Jesse Jackson visited Franklin on Tuesday at her Detroit home.
Tributes immediately began pouring in for Franklin after news of her death.
