Dangerous Snow Squall Blowing Through Region

A dangerous snow squall is causing whiteout conditions on roadways with gusts around 20 mph and zero visibility conditions as a result.

SOUTHEASTERN MICHIGAN — A dangerous snow squall is passing through the region Monday causing whiteout conditions on roadways..

The National Weather Service issued the alert saying the squall was located at 11:$5 a.m. over Greenfield Village and near Taylor, moving east at 20 mph. Reports say it was spotted centered over Canton Township at one point.

Drivers should expect hazardous road conditions with near zero visibility, the warning states.

The warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • I-75 between mile markers 49 and 50.
  • I-275 between mile markers 25 and 27.
  • I-96 between mile markers 176 and 192.
  • M-10 between mile markers 1 and 4, and between mile markers 8 and
  • 10.
  • M-39 between mile markers 6 and 10.

This snow squall will be near Detroit around noon and other locations impacted by the snow squall include Northwest Detroit, Westland, Redford, Southwest Detroit, Dearborn Heights,
Garden City and Inkster.

Drivers should reduce speed and turn on headlights, according to the National Weather Service.
