Detroit Coast Guard Rescues 3 Boaters From Lake Erie: Officials

The three people were taken to a hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio where they were in stable condition, officials said.​

DETROIT — Three boaters were rescued from Lake Erie early Thursday morning, according to the Coast Guard Air Station Detroit.

Officials said the three people were on a 29-foot sailboat that ran aground on Middle Bass Island at 12:13 a.m. Thursday, leaving them stranded on the island.

Coast Guard officials sent an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, which deployed a rescue swimmer who hoisted all three passengers on the boat into the helicopter, officials said.

"The sector issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched Station Marblehead’s Response Boat—Medium," said the Coast Guard in a statement.
