Detroit Man Accused Of Shooting, Killing 16-Year-Old Girl

A Detroit man faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old Detroit girl Sunday.

DETROIT, MI — A Detroit man faces a first-degree murder charge in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old Detroit girl Sunday.

Matthew James Reeves, IV, 22, is charged with first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to murder, discharge of a firearm in a building causing death, carrying a concealed weapon and five counts of felony firearms, Wayne County prosecutors said Thursday.

Reeves is accused of driving to a home on Beaconsfield in the city to pick up his daughter from her mother when an argument began, prosecutors said. Prosecutors added that Reeves went to his vehicle, grabbed a handgun and fired it into the home, hitting 16-year-old Rayne Nicole Dennis.

Dennis was the step-sister of the infant's mother, prosecutors said.

Reeves drove away from the scene but was later arrested by Detroit police, prosecutors said.
