Detroit Voter Guide 2025: Who's On Ballot, Where To Vote
There are several key races to watch in Detroit, including City Council President Mary Sheffield and Pastor Solomon Kinloch vying for mayor.

DETROIT — Election Day is Nov. 4 in Michigan, and there are several key races to watch in Detroit. The highlight is the Detroit mayoral race, in which voters will choose a successor to Mike Duggan, who has held the office since 2014.
Other important races include a city council race and a police commissioner's race.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. You can also still register and vote at Detroit's clerk's office until 8 p.m. You can find your closest precinct here.

Detroit Mayoral Race
City Council President Mary Sheffield and Pastor Solomon Kinloch Jr. are vying to succeed Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, who decided not to seek re-election after three terms, and is running for governor as an Independent.
Sheffield was the top vote-getter in the August non-partisan primary, securing 53 percent of the vote, and was endorsed by Duggan. Kinloch was the runner-up with 17 percent of the vote.

Sheffield, a 12-year veteran of the City Council, said she will focus on education, gun violence prevention and infrastructure investments if picked to lead the city. If elected, she would be the first woman and the first Black woman to hold the role of Detroit mayor.
Kinloch, a senior pastor at Triumph Church in Detroit, said he will focus on poverty and public safety. He has largely targeted voters who have been frustrated with the city’s current leadership.
Other Key Races
Voters in Detroit will also choose two new city council members. Running for the seats are Janee' L. Ayers, James Harris, Mary Waters and Coleman A. Young II. The winners will be elected to a four-year term.
There is also a police commissioners race for Detroit's 6th district, which is in southwest Detroit. Running for the position is Garrett Burton and Lisa Carter.
