DTLR Presents First-Ever Scholarship to Graduating Seniors at JRLA
Representatives from DTLR presented life-sized checks for $2,500 to two seniors who demonstrated exemplary community service and leadership
On Saturday, May 3, DTLR, one of the country's most successful lifestyle retailers with more than 250 stores in 21 states, teamed up with Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) to present two seniors -- Rahmani Muhammad and Naima Kellum -- with a $2,500 scholarship toward their post-secondary education at an HBCU or vocational training school.
The first-ever recipients of the DTLR scholarship were chosen for their exemplary community service, leadership skills, and academic achievement. Rahmani Muhammad will be attending Central Michigan in the fall to study film and photography. Naima Kellum will be attending Oakland University to study sonography.
This scholarship presentation represents an evolution in the powerful four-year partnership between the organizations, which consists of annual uniform donations to support incoming freshmen. DTLR will continue its uniform donation program this summer and will build upon its scholarship for each graduating class from this year forward.
Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is an open-enrollment, tuition-free public charter school in northwest Detroit and provides a leadership-focused education to more than 400 ninth through twelfth grade students.
