Off-Duty Officer Involved In Freeway Shootout On Christmas Eve
An off-duty Detroit police officer was shot in a freeway shootout Thursday morning.
DETROIT, MI — A shootout on a Detroit freeway Thursday morning involved an off-duty Detroit police officer whose vehicle was rear-ended and then hit again by another vehicle, according to reports.
The officer was rear-ended while traveling south on I-75, near Springwells Street, in the southeast portion of the city, according to WDIV-TV. The TV station reported that as the officer tried to drive away her vehicle was hit again by a man driving a Ford F-150, a collision that pinned her vehicle against a construction barrier.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 34-year-old man, got out of his truck and exchanged gunfire with the officer, the TV station reported.

WXYZ reported that the officer was grazed by a bullet, while the suspect was shot.
The off-duty officer ran from the scene where she sought help, according to the TV stations, while the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. He is listed in critical condition, according to WXYZ.
