Egypt Covington: 2nd Person Charged In 2017 Wayne Co. Murder Case
Police said a second person has been charged in connection with the murder of Egypt Covington in 2017.
WAYNE COUNTY, MI — Michigan State Police on Friday said a second person has been arrested and charged in connection with the 2017 murder of Egypt Covington in Wayne County.
Shane Lamar Evans, 31, of Sumpter Township, was arraigned in 34th District Court on one count of felony murder and a second count of first-degree home invasion, police said.
Police said Evans also was charged as a habitual offender-second offense, potentially enhancing his sentence for the crimes.

Evans was remanded to the Wayne County Jail ahead of future court appearances, according to MSP. The investigation is ongoing, they said.

Covington, a 27-year-old singer, was found shot and killed in her Van Buren Township home in June 2017, according to reports about the case.
Michigan State Police got involved in the case at the family's behest and began assisting Van Buren Township police.
On Nov. 5, police said two people had been arrested in connection with Covington's murder.
Police at the time said detectives from the Michigan State Police 2nd District Special Investigation Section made the arrests but did not release additional information.
Authorities later announced that Timothy Eugene Moore, 34, of Toledo, Ohio, had been arraigned on one count of first-degree homicide, felony murder, first-degree home invasion, weapons possession by a felon, and four counts of felony firearm in the 34th District Court. He was denied bond, police said.
"We realize that we have not discussed this investigation in public," officials said in a statement. "This investigation has a lot of moving parts and our ultimate goal is to make sure we get every fact possible to bring justice for Egypt."

Two days later, authorities said a second person who was arrested last week has been released from police custody pending further investigation.
"The second person arrested by Special Investigation Detectives has been released pending further investigation," Michigan State Police officials said in a statement posted to Twitter. "This investigation continues to change rapidly and detectives are continuing to follow up on leads generated from evidence in the case."
Authorities would not say if Evans was the same person released in November.
