Ex-Metro Detroit Teacher, Dance Coach Sexually Assaults Student: Cops
The former teacher is facing multiple charges, including first-degree criminal sexual conduct, police said.

HIGHLAND PARK, MI — A former metro Detroit teacher is facing charges after grooming and sexually assaulting a student for several years, according to police.
Vincent Weaver, 29, faces one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of indecent exposure. He was placed in jail with a bond at $250,000.
If he does post bond and is released, he must wear a GPS tether.His next court date was scheduled for May 27.

If convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, he faces a minimum sentence of 25 years and a maximum of life in prison.
Police said Weaver had worked since 2023 as a fine arts teacher at George Washington Carver Academy, which is a pre-kindergarten to eighth-grade charter school in the Highland Park Schools district. Police said he also coached the school's dance team.

Police said the student involved in the sex crimes was between 10 and 12 years old. They also believe the sex crimes happened on school grounds.
"This situation is deeply troubling, and we recognize the pain and concern it may cause within our community," Highland Park police said. "We are committed to full transparency and supporting the affected student and their family. The school district and law enforcement will continue working together to ensure accountability, safety, and healing."
School officials said they fired Weaver in May 2025 after an internal investigation. They are still working with police in their ongoing investigation.
"Our immediate, top priority and focus remains the safety and well-being of our students and their families, and we are committed to supporting them with appropriate resources during this time," school officials said in a statement.
