MICHIGAN — Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are campaigning in the Detroit area Friday.

Harris will first visit Grand Rapids and Lansing for speaking events, before heading to Waterford for a campaign event, according to campaign officials.

Harris is expected to stay in the area overnight and visit Detroit on Saturday, which is the first day of early voting in the city, according to campaign officials.

The events come just after Harris sat down with Charlamagne Tha God for a radio town hall in Detroit. Harris took questions from voters around the nation, including Michigan, and largely focused on Black voters.

"Part of the challenge that I face is that they are trying to scare people away, because they know they otherwise have nothing to run on," Harris said. "Ask Donald Trump what his plan is for Black America. Ask him."

Trump, meanwhile, will also visit an Oakland County location Friday, before heading to downtown Detroit for a rally at the Huntington Place. That event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Trump's visit to Detroit comes after he criticized the city while speaking to Michigan business leaders at the Motor City Casino.

"The whole country will be like — you want to know the truth? It'll be like Detroit," the Republican presidential nominee said. "Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she's your president."

Trump again put down Detroit on Tuesday while speaking at the Economic Club of Chicago.

"I've been talking about for the last year, about Detroit and how horribly it has been," Trump said. "It's just horrible because we've been talking about Detroit's coming back for 40 years, and it's never come back."
